Tonight is the art show!  Come view amazing student artwork.  Each student will have 3 pieces of work from their portfolio on display.  So excited!!  See you there....

Kindergarten Crazy Rainbows!

"Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet, too!"  Ask your kindergartener to sing the rainbow song...you may not be able to get it out of your head!  This group practiced their brush and color mixing skills to make these beautiful rainbows.  After their entire paper was "rainbowed", these artists cut crazy lines through their paintings with scissors and then glued it all back together!

7-8 Surreal Shoes

Surreal:  The unlikely combination of images and ideas
In their study of surrealism, 7-8 graders combined an unlikely object with a shoe.  These sculptures are constructed from clay slabs.

3-4 3D pattern drawing

5-6 Complete their beautiful Egyptian-Style Portraits!

There were many steps to this project.  The outcome is assembled like a collage (the piece is created in parts).  Students had to select jewlery (collar- with patterns and limited color palette) and a traditional ancient Egyptian head piece as part of the criteria.  Students signed their name in hieroglyphics.

Update...

The 7-8 has been working hard on the their MONSTERS!  They used the left over styrofoam packaging (from the netbooks) to make the form of their creature- they will be covered with plaster gauze, painted and decorated...I'm looking forward to seeing the results!

5-6 is deep into their Egyptian style portraits!

1-2 textured slab cups are in the kiln!

3-4 is getting ready for their play, The Jungle Book -they have been making props!

For most grades, the past few weeks have been all about exploring the art element of texture.  Check out the different approaches-

1-2

After our texture scavenger hunt last week, we used special tools to create textures in in our clay slabs this week.  Next time, these artists will create a vase out of their slab.

3-4 Nature Observations

These students created these drawings by carefully observing an object from nature.  We explored ways to create texture with watercolor paints and sharpies.
